The first step in determining the size of your next mattress is understanding what sizes are available. Whether replacing an existing mattress or upgrading sizes, there are many important factors that go into selecting the right size mattress.

Sizes
Twin
38”x75”
Smallest mattress size that will accommodate children and most adults.
Ideal for: Children, single adults, use in a small living situation or room.
Not Good For: Couples, taller men and women, more than one person in bed.
Twin Extra Long
38”x80”
Mostly found in college dorm rooms, these mattresses will fit in a smaller space while providing extra (5 inches) of length.
Ideal for: Tall adults and teenagers needing additional length in smaller living situations such as shared rooms, or smaller bedrooms.
Not Good For: Couples, anyone who needs additional room.
Full/Double
54”x75”
Also known as a double, the full size gives you quite a bit more room to stretch out than the twin size. These used to be standard size mattresses for couples when homes were smaller. These are frequently used in guest rooms, rooms with single sleepers, or for a couple that may like to sleep close together.
Ideal for: Individual sleepers, couples that don’t require more room, guest rooms.
Not Good For: Couples that wish to spread out or for pet owners who sleep with their pets.
Queen
60"x80"
Queen is the most popular size of mattress in the world. It offers additional length and width for adults and fits in most living spaces.
Ideal for: Most sleeping situations, couples, singles that like to spread out, smaller master bedrooms and those who sleep with small pets.
Not Good For: Couples who like to spread out more, sleepers with more than one small pet.
King
76”x80”
King size offers the most sleeping surface available in standard mattress sizes (along with California King which is longer but narrower). It is the same width as 2 twins and will comfortably accommodate the most amount of sleeping options. This size also offers the option to split the mattress to allow for more options in comfort and mobility.
Ideal for: Those who enjoy stretching out and having a lot of room, couples, those who sleep with a pet or multiple pets.
Not Good For: Smaller master bedrooms, living situations with smaller spaces.
California King
72”x84”
California King size offers the longest length in any mattress size. It offers the most sleeping surface available in standard mattress sizes (along with King Size) and will comfortably accommodate the most amount of sleeping options. This size also offers the option to split the mattress to allow for more options in comfort and mobility.
Ideal for: Individuals of above average height, those who enjoy stretching out and having a lot of room, couples, those who sleep with a pet or multiple pets.
Not Good For: Smaller master bedrooms, living situations with smaller spaces.
